We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we operate, the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation. We pay our respects to their elders, past and present, and acknowledge their ongoing connection to land, water and community.

There are many benefits to joining the CFA as a volunteer, including the opportunity to serve your community, learn new skills, and make a difference in people’s lives. The CFA welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds and walks of life, including parents, professionals, tradespeople, students and retirees.
If you are interested in becoming a firefighter, it is important to live reasonably close to the fire station in order to be able to respond to emergencies in a timely manner. However, there are also opportunities for volunteers who may not live close to the station, but who may wish to make themselves available to work or study from our purpose-built Business Hub, undertake support roles, or respond during peak times when large-scale emergencies are underway.
One of the great benefits of volunteering with the CFA is that the only cost is your time. All training and equipment is provided by the CFA as needed, so you don’t have to worry about any additional expenses. The time commitment will depend on the type of role that you choose, but generally the brigade will train weekly and hold meetings bi-monthly, in addition to responding to any incidents that occur. You will be able to discuss your availability with the Brigade to find a role that suits you best. The minimum age to become a firefighter is 16 years (16 and 17-year-olds will need parental consent). The Brigade runs a Junior Volunteer Development program for children aged 11-15 years.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the CFA, don’t hesitate to start an expression of interest, or contact us for any further information.
